Our mandate


The Canadian Center for Overseas Development (CCOD) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to contribute to the process of socio-economic development of disadvantaged communities in the Middle East and Horn of Africa (MEHA).

Through direct involvement with local partners in the MEHA regions, CCOD will increase the transfer of skills, knowledge and Canadian values with the objective of increasing local capacities.

There are several target areas including Health care, Education and Poverty Reduction Strategy which have a continual impact upon women and children.

To get started, the CCOD is particularly interested in Yemen, whose story is one of the most fascinating and with whose civil society it has close relations. Djibouti will be included in this program as well for the same reasons.

The CCOD is very sensitive to the rights of visible minorities and will be increasing local capacities in promoting the status of women and children in order to help them protect themselves against all form of violence and to fully exercise their rights as enacted and protected by the Charter of Human Rights. The Center is also sensitive to the peace process and eager to encouraging communication and respect of others´ opinions, diversity and differences in the MEHA regions.

High quality news releases and reports will be produced and published on the economic and social situation in the MEEA regions.

The CCDO will eventually raise awareness in Canada by directly speaking to the Canadian government, non-governmental organizations and the general Canadian public. The Center will be leading its mission with transparency and professionalism.
