Recent mission: Al-Markazi camp in Obock

CCDO contributions

The first picture is a shot of the banner made by a great NGO that I met during my time in Djibouti: the Charitable Society for Social Welfare. It is an NGO from Yemen that supports its people as well as refugees in Djibouti through their social care, health initiatives and education & community development projects. There were nice enough to join me on my journey to the Al-Markhazi camp and help me on grounds as well as back in Djibouti-ville. I had the chance to see their work and listen to their current and future projects. They are definitely the most trustworthy and transparent NGO that I have met throughout this initiative.

Yemenis kids in Markazi camp

The two other pictures are the children that we met in the only school in the refugee camp. The school, Al-Rahma, is a tiny room that can only take up around 50 people. However, up to 300 children attend it. Classes vary between 24-150 kids.

The children were full of pure joy. They loved being in front of the camera and making sure their face was in every picture. It was, definitely, reassuring to see that they still had the sense of hope, despite the situation they’re in. No words can truly describe the feeling of seeing them all around us.
